Groton, CT – Fairview, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Groton, CT, has broken ground on Vista Point and Horizon, marking the start of construction on the largest campus expansion in the organization's 134-year history.

The milestone follows Fairview's closing on $304.17 million in financing to support the development. The expansion represents the third phase of a multi-phased master plan that will transform Fairview from a skilled nursing community into a full-service continuing care retirement community, expanding residential options, amenities, and the continuum of care available to current and future residents.

Situated on approximately 70 acres overlooking the Thames River, Fairview is sponsored by the Odd Fellows of Connecticut. The project includes approximately 568,000 square feet of new development, adding 175 independent living residences at Vista Point and 18 independent living residences in the Horizon building, along with 44 assisted living and 28 memory support residences.

The expansion will also introduce multiple dining venues, a café and bistro, salt-water pool, performing arts space, library, serenity room, beauty salon, golf simulator, fitness facilities, pickleball and tennis courts, walking trails, and residential storage.

Fairview leadership was joined at the August 7 groundbreaking by residents, board members, project partners, local and state leaders, and members of the surrounding community. Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 U.S. Olympic gold medal-winning hockey team, delivered the keynote address. The team's historic journey had served as a source of inspiration for Fairview's leadership and development teams throughout the project, making Eruzione's participation a meaningful addition to the milestone celebration.

Greystone President Brad Straub also addressed attendees, highlighting the broader impact of the development on Fairview and the surrounding region. In addition to supporting construction and local trade jobs during development, the completed expansion is expected to create approximately 50 new positions and provide a home for an additional 325 older adults.

Fairview engaged Greystone as development consultant to provide planning, financing, design coordination, and strategic marketing support throughout the development of Vista Point and Horizon. With construction now underway, initial occupancy of the new independent living residences is anticipated in spring 2028.

The groundbreaking marks the next step in a long-term campus strategy designed to strengthen Fairview's position for the future while expanding its ability to serve older adults throughout southeastern Connecticut.
